CASTRO VALLEY — The Castro Valley BART station reopened to commuters after an hour-long closure allowing BART police and first responders to rescue a person from its trackway Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

BART spokeswoman Anna Duckworth said the station was closed shortly after 2:30 p.m. after first reports of the emergency at 2:20 p.m., with trains continuing to run through the station without stopping.

BART spokesman Jim Allison said Wednesday that the person injured was a male. He said he did not have any information about the person’s medical condition.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., officials said the station had reopened to train traffic and commuter use after firefighters rescued a person from a station trackway.

In a social-media post, Alameda County Fire Department firefighters said crew members used a search camera to find the injured person and retrieve them after de-energizing a nearby third rail and separating two train cars.
