WEST NYACK, NY — Officials at Bed Bath & Beyond will close their store in the Palisades Center. It's one of several nationwide including two in New York that the popular home store with locations in the United States and beyond is closing as it navigates the retail apocalypse.

On the list are "a limited number of stores that no longer meet the standards our customers expect from us, including our West Nyack location in West Nyack, NY and our Bronx Terminal Market location in Bronx, NY," said spokesperson Jessica Joyce.

None of the company's other stores in the Hudson Valley are on the list. In Rockland County, the Spring Valley Marketplace, will remain open. There are also Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Kingston, Middletown, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Mohegan Lake, Elmsford, Port Chester and Yonkers.

"We’re giving our most popular stores a multi-million dollar facelift and continually investing in our digital platform to give customers an even better shopping experience in store or at home," she said.

The news comes months after a September letter to shareholders from the interim CEO Mary A. Winston and the chairman of the board of directors, Patrick R. Gaston. The company will also shed itself of up to $1 billion in inventory over the next year, the letter says. "Our focus on putting the customer at the center of our transformation, supported by data and insights, is intended to restore Bed Bath & Beyond to its iconic status and improve the company's competitive position."

The store is expected to close in June, the Rockland Business Journal reported.

The closing adds to the losses at the big regional mall, which include two of its big anchors, J.C. Penney and Lord & Taylor, plus many smaller retailers.

Bed Bath & Beyond is part of a growing national list of brick-and-mortar establishments that have seen their revenue and popularity plummet with the emergence of e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Walmart. Retailers who announced closings, bankruptcy or shrinkage in 2019 included not only Bed Bath & Beyond but stores including Forever 21, Dress Barn and Lord & Taylor, Pier 1, A.C. Moore, Dress Barn and Payless Shoes.
