Baseball

No. 4 Palo Alto 10, No. 14 Los Altos 0

Palo Alto parents have been among the most vocal since the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s Board of Managers voted to uphold the decision to skip the section playoffs this spring.

Friday, one day after the vote, the school’s baseball team showed again that it’d be a postseason contender if given the opportunity to participate.

Henry Bolte had three hits and knocked in three runs and Zander Darby homered and scored three runs to lead Palo Alto, playing on the road, to a victory that completed a two-game sweep of Los Altos in SCVAL De Anza Division play.

Ritter Amsbaugh and Ryan Harvey combined for the shutout. Amsbaugh struck out seven in four innings, and Harvey allowed a hit and a walk over three innings.

Palo Alto (8-2) plays at home Monday against Homestead.

Los Altos (4-4) visits Leland today.

No. 5 San Ramon Valley 13, Livermore 1

Jaron Nevarez, fresh off being voted Bay Area News Group athlete of the week, struck out nine in four innings and Noah Garcia homered and had three RBIs to lead SRV to a rout on the road.

The Wolves scored four in the first and added three in the third and six in the fifth.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. 

No. 10 De La Salle 20, Monte Vista 5

De La Salle, playing at home in Concord, scored six runs in the second to take command and eight in the third to put the game away as it completed a two-game sweep of Monte Vista in the East Bay Athletic League.

Blake Burke went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run. He drove in three runs and scored three runs.

Alec Nava went 4 for 4 with a double and a triple. He and Elias Rubio each knocked in four runs. The Spartans (11-4) also got three hits and two RBIs from Anthony Martinez.

Will Pierotti doubled and had three RBIs for Monte Vista (7-8).

De La Salle plays host to Elk Grove (13-1) today.

Boys basketball

No. 9 De La Salle 63, San Ramon Valley 60

De La Salle overcame a six-point halftime deficit to win on its home court as junior Chris Bunch, playing his first game of the spring, led the way with 22 points.

The Spartans pulled even after three quarters, built a nine-point lead early in the fourth and then held on down the stretch against its East Bay Athletic League foe.

Tyler Isaak led San Ramon Valley with 27 points.

The teams play again tonight in Danville.

No. 8 Salesian 68, Bethel 37

Salesian set the stage for its game today at home against Bishop O’Dowd with a comfortable victory over Bethel as the Pride improved to 2-2.

Dante Sawyer and Zander Jimenez each had 13 points and Amani Johnson finished with 10 for Salesian.

No. 15 Newark Memorial 79, Moreau Catholic 61

Newark Memorial charged to a 21-10 lead after one quarter and went on to win on its home court against its Mission Valley Athletic League rival.

Tyler Harris (21 points), Elijah Carlton (19 points) and Jacob Walker (16 points) led the way for Newark Memorial, which opened its season Wednesday with a loss to Washington-Fremont.

Trey Knight scored 21 points and Devon Arnold added 19 points for Moreau Catholic (1-1).

Washington-Fremont 64, James Logan 55

Washington, playing at home, improved to 2-0 behind 18 points from Alex Martin, 16 from Jorren Edmonds and 15 from Jo Mangonon.

Makaio Mims had 19 points and Anthony Delguidice added 13 for James Logan (0-2).

Washington visits Moreau on Wednesday. The teams shared the MVAL title last season.

Softball

No. 2 St. Francis 14, Valley Christian 3

Sydney Stewart hit two home runs and drove in five to power undefeated St. Francis to another impressive victory against a West Catholic Athletic League opponent.

Stewart finished with three hits.

Jessica Oakland also had three hits, including a home run, and knocked in three runs for the Lancers, who ran their record to 13-0.

Valley is 6-6.

No. 4 Archbishop Mitty 1, Presentation 0

Taryn Kern had three hits and scored the only run — in the first inning — and that was all pitchers April Hisey and Kelly Zybura needed to defeat Presentation. 

Mitty, coming off a tight loss to St. Francis on Wednesday, improved to 6-1.

Presentation is 3-6.
