The United Nations envoy on Libya has said that Daesh (ISIS) militants could "become a very serious threat" to the country within a matter of months, according to the AP new agency.

Bernadino Leon said that unless a unity deal is reached, the situation will deteriorate.

Leon was speaking at a regional conference of the World Economic Forum on Saturday. He described how the presence of Daesh in Libya has grown in recent months from relatively few militants to more than 2,000 loyalists.

The situation in Libya has got worse since last year when the country's capital Tripolo was overrun by Islamist-allied militias who set up their own government. Libya's internationally recognized government set up in the east of the country.
