Scholastic sports roundup: Shanksville takes down Rockwood in three sets

Shanksville defeated Rockwood 3-0 in a WestPAC girls volleyball matchup, Tuesday, in Shanksville.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-11, 25-14.

Abby Lohr totaled 32 digs to lead the Vikings. Katie Muro compiled 30 digs, and Josie Snyder had 20. Liz Salsgiver dished out 25 assists.

Rylee Snyder tallied 14 kills. Jadeyn Gross and Olivia Younkin each had four kills.

The Vikings improve to 9-3 and host Hyndman on Thursday.

In junior varsity, Shanksville won 25-12, 25-6.

Berlin 3, Salisbury 0

Berlin defeated Salisbury 3-0 in a girls volleyball match, Tuesday, in Berlin.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-4, 25-5.

Grace Dorcon totaled 13 kills and five aces to lead the Mountaineers (11-5). Kassidy Smith compiled six kills, while Maddy Nemeth had four aces. Carlyn Hay dished out 11 assists.

NS 3, Ferndale 0

North Star swept Ferndale 3-0 in a girls volleyball match, Tuesday, in Boswell.

Set scores were 25-12, 25-23, 25-12.

Syd Ashbrook topped the Cougars with 20 kills. Emily Bittner compiled seven kills. Anna Grandas totaled 22 assists and three aces. Alyssa Hemminger added three aces.

The Cougars travel to Windber on Thursday.

In junior varsity, North Star won 2-0.

Windber 3, CV 0

Windber took down Conemaugh Valley 3-0 in girls volleyball action, Tuesday, in Windber.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-15.

Hannah Tallion led the Ramblers with 26 service points and 19 digs. Amanda Cominsky totaled 14 kills. Eryn Marsh compiled 20 assists.

The Ramblers (9-3) host North Star on Thursday.

In junior varsity, Windber won 25-10, 25-13.

CT 3, Portage 0

Conemaugh Township swept Portage 3-0 in WestPAC girls volleyball, Tuesday, in Portage.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 25-18.

Hannah Swank totaled 17 digs and 13 kills to lead the Indians. Maciah Holsopple compiled 14 kills, while Chloe Bidelman had 13 digs. Madison Showalter dished out 30 assists.

The Indians (10-3) travel to Ferndale on Thursday.

In junior varsity, Conemaugh Township won 25-22, 21-25, 25-21.

PC 3, Somerset 1

Somerset fell to Penn Cambria 3-1 in a LHAC girls volleyball matchup, Tuesday, in Cresson.

Set scores were 25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21.

Shaelyn Walker led the Golden Eagles with 20 digs. Shawna Walker tallied 16 kills. Sidney Campbell and MacKenzie Wolff combined for 11 digs.

Wolf and Shandi Walker totaled 12 kills. Anna Lane and Gracie Bowers combined for 35 assists.

The Golden Eagles (8-3) travel to Bishop McCort on Thursday.

In junior varsity, Somerset won 27-25, 25-16.

Shade 3, Meyersdale 0

Shade bested Meyersdale 3-0 in a girls volleyball matchup, Tuesday, in Meyersdale.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-14, 25-19.

Meyersdale won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-17.

Windber 3, NS 0

Windber earned its 12th straight victory with a 3-0 shutout win over North Star in girls soccer, Tuesday, in Boswell.

Rylee Ott, Shannon Tokarsky and Kaylee Dowdell each scored goals for the Ramblers.

Ott and Harmony Jablon tallied assists. Lexi James earned the shutout in net.

The Ramblers (12-0) travel to Rockwood on Saturday.

Berlin 2, CT 0

Berlin defeated Conemaugh Township 2-0 in a girls soccer matchup, Tuesday, in Davidsville.

Adrianna Guindon and Ashley Brant each tallied a goal for the Mountaineers.

Indians’ goalkeeper Chloe Shaulis made a season-high 28 saves, including stopping a penalty kick attempt.

Conemaugh Township hosts North Star on Thursday.

Somerset 1, CH 0

A goal from Tanner Wassilchalk provided enough offense as Somerset edged Cambria Heights 1-0 in boys soccer, Tuesday, in Somerset.

RJ James tallied an assist on the goal. Quintin Robison recorded the shutout in net.

The Golden Eagles (6-3-2) travel to Penn Cambria, Thursday.

In junior varsity, Somerset won 2-1.

Windber XC

The Windber boys and girls cross country teams hosted Johnstown Christian, Salisbury and Meyersdale in a match on Tuesday. Both Ramblers’ squads earned three victories in the match.

Windber’s boys team improved to 12-1 after defeating Meyersdale 17-42, Salisbury 15-48 and Johnstown Christian 15-50.

Meyersdale beat Salisbury 21-34 and Johnstown Christian 19-36.

Joe McKelvey, of Windber, won the boy’s race with a time of 17:49. He was followed by Windber’s Garrett Page in second (18:27) and Bryce Brubaker in third (18:53). Meyersdale’s Gabe Kretchman took fourth at 18:56, while the Ramblers’ Logan Butler finished fifth in 19:31.

The Rambler girls extended their undefeated streak to 10-0 with wins over Meyersdale 22-33, Johnstown Christian 19-40 and Salisbury 15-45.

Meyersdale defeated Johnstown Christian 20-41 and Salisbury 15-50.

Windber’s Paige Bennethum took first place with a time of 23:17. Johnstown Christian’s Unnity Miller finished second at 23:25, while the Rambler’s Kyra Allison took third at 23:58. Meyersdale’s Lizzie Saylor finished fourth (24:16) and Windber’s Olivia Canary took fifth (24:37).
