5 things to do this weekend in the Freeport area

Straddle Creek Gardens, 25269 Locust Road, Lanark, will host its fall festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4.

1. Start fall off with a festival

Straddle Creek Gardens, 25269 Locust Road, Lanark, will host its fall festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The festival will feature pumpkin picking, hayrack rides, games and food from Street Eats. For information: 815-275-7930.

2. Go for a jog in the Leaf Run

Registration is now open for the Autumn Leaf Run. This year’s event will be virtual so runners can choose a convenient time to run or hike at Oakdale, or select their own 5K trail to complete. 3. Attend a hog roast

The Lena volunteer fire department, 405 W. Railroad St., will host a hog roast at 5 p.m. Saturday. Serving will continue until food is gone. Meals will be served to-go and include pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw and a dinner roll. Cost: $8. For information: facebook.com/events/592895564712579.

4. Play cornhole and raise money

Fitness Lifestyles of Freeport, 641 W. Stephenson St., will hold a cornhole fundraiser to benefit Freeport schools from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Food will be provided by Rapped With Smoke BBQ and drinks will be provided by Mort's Bar & Grill. Cost: $50, team of two. For information: 815-233-2292.

5. Watch some Halloween movies

Mayfest Movie on the Quad will play “Hocus Pocus” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Shimer Quad, 203 E. Seminary, Mount Carroll. Popcorn and hot chocolate will be available. Social distancing will be maintained. Free. For information: mountcarrollmayfest@gmail.com.
