Hot tubs can be a great way to unwind, soothe your sore muscles and escape those chilly summer days when it's just a bit too nippy to dip your toes into a regular pool.

They also can be a breeding ground for some pretty icky bacteria, diseases and allergic reactions, according to Live Science.

Here are a few conditions that spending some aaaaah time in a hot tub can lead to, according to the website: 

Hot tub lung: Mycobacterium avium complex is a bacteria that can live in warm water. When it's breathed in, it can cause granulomas in people's lungs, leading to coughing, trouble breathing, fever and fatigue.

Hot tub rash: The bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa can lead to itchy skin, a bumpy red rash or even pus-filled blisters.

Urinary tract infections: In rare cases, the same bacteria that causes hot tub rash also can cause urinary tract infections.

It's important to note that most of these conditions are rare, and the odds of suffering from one of the conditions can be cut down or eliminated by proper cleaning and disinfecting of the hot tub, as well as rinsing off well soon after leaving the tub.
