Virginia Fall Festivals In Time Of Pandemic: What's Open In 2020

VIRGINIA — With Labor Day come and gone and schools starting up, you might be starting to think about fall activities to do with the family. Fall festivals, corn mazes and pumpkin patches are annual traditions for some, but the pandemic may change plans for those who typically plan or attend festivals.

We've rounded up some popular fall festival options in and around Northern Virginia and what they're planning for 2020. Click on each festival name for more information, tickets or future updates.

  • Burnside Farms: The farm is planning its fall for sunflowers event, so check back in October for details. A corn maze is among the features being planned. 11008 Kettle Run Road, Nokesville, VA 20181

  • Cox Farms: The farm will not hold its annual Fall Festival and Fields of Fear. It is planning alternatives like a self-driven hayride and drive-thru market. 15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, VA 20120

  • Reston Farms Garden Market's Fall Fest: The festival will happen on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 25 to Nov. 1. There will be timed entry tickets and safety protocols in place. 10800 Baron Cameron Avenue, Reston, VA 20190

  • Pumpkin Village Fall Fest at Leesburg Animal Park: The annual Pumpkin Village will return from Sept. 19 to Nov. 3 with COVID-19 restrictions. Tickets must be purchased in advance. 19246 James Monroe Highway, Leesburg, VA 20175

  • Corn Maze in the Plains: 2019 was the final year for Corn Maze in the Plains. The owners have moved the corn maze south of Charlottesville, Virginia. The Blue Ridge Mountain Maze is located at 165 Old Ridge Road, Lovingston, VA 22949 with more information at www.blueridgemountainmaze.com.

  • Temple Hall Farm Regional Park: Instead of a fall festival, the regional park is planning a pumpkin patch this year from Oct. 1 to 31. Admission includes pumpkin picking, and the farm will have its playground, jumping pillows and slides open. 15855 Limestone School Road, Leesburg, VA 20176

  • Fall For Fairfax KidsFest: Due to COVID-19 concerns, the festival will not take place in 2020.

  • Great Country Farms: The farm will host its Corn Maze and Apple Harvest from Sept. 1 to 30 and Fall Pumpkin Harvest Festival from Sept. 28 to Oct. 31. Advance tickets are required for weekend visits. 18780 Foggy Bottom Road, Bluemont, VA 20135

  • Amazing Farm Fun @ Ticonderoga: The festival is closed for the season.

  • Whitehall Farms Fall Fun Days: The fall fun days events will happen weekends from Oct. 3 to Nov. 1. Credit cards are accepted, but visitors can preorder tickets. 6080 Colchester Road Fairfax, VA 22030

  • Belvedere Plantation Fall Harvest Festival: The festival will be open from Sept. 13 to Nov. 8 with advance tickets only. The farm has gone cashless as well. 1410 Belvedere Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22408

  • Wayside Farm Fun: The farm is still working on details for its fall festival, so check back for updates. It will open on Sept. 26 through Nov. 1 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. 5273 Harry Byrd Hwy, Berryville, VA 22611

  • Cows-N-Corn: The owners have moved operations to Maple Tree Farm in Warrenton. The farm is planning fall activities for weekends and weekdays (latter by appointment only) from Sept. 26 to Nov. 1. 8275 Maple Tree Lane, Warrenton, VA 20187

  • Hartland Farm and Orchard: The The Fall Festival Fun Field will not be held this year due to COVID-19. The Hartland Farm Market will be open through October every day except Tuesday and Wednesday. 3205 Hartland Ln, Markham, VA 22643

  • City of Fairfax Annual Fall Festival: The event has been canceled, but a virtual craft show is being planned in October.

  • Clifton Day Festival: The event has been canceled in 2020.

  • Falls Church Festival: The 2020 event has been canceled.

  • Occoquan RiverFest & Craft Show: This event has been canceled in 2020.
