Convenience store chain Wawa has chosen New Jersey as the place for its first-ever drive-thru location, according to a report by The Courier Post.

The 5,585-square-foot store will be at Rancocas Rd. and Highland Dr. in Westampton, the report said.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, but Wawa is hoping for it to open by the end of this year, according to the report, which also said the drive-thru service will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a limited menu.

The news comes in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, where social distancing has become the norm, along with curbside pickup and drive-thru services.

Wawa told The Courier Post the decision was made “in response to COVID-19 and as a way to provide new ways to access Wawa.”

Other Wawa stores have recently opened in Hazlet and Springfield, which is the chain’s 900th location.

Wawa also will open stores this summer in North Brunswick and Belleville, along with an additional Westampton location (at Springside Rd. and Woodlane Rd.), according to its website.

Wawa’s other North Brunswick store closed in January. There are plans for it to be demolished and rebuilt on the same site.
