More than 5,000 Appalachian Power customers without power

High winds are knocking out power throughout Southwest Virginia. More than 5,000 Appalachian power customers are currently in the dark.

The largest outage stretches from Gate City to the Fort Blackmore community.

Residents near Clinchco and Southwest Virginia Community College could also see outages in their area.

In Tennessee, customers in the Mount Carmel area are without power.

Appalachian Power is expecting the power to stay out for at least four more hours in most areas.
