New Jersey residents are waking up Monday to the possibility of wet weather with freezing rain possible in the northwestern part of the state and a coastal flood advisory in effect for the Jersey Shore.
In the meantime, a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for Morris, Sussex and Warren counties as freezing rain expected. A light glaze of ice should accumulate, the National Weather Service says. Untreated surfaces could quickly become slippery during the morning commute, the weather service notes in its Monday morning forecast discussion
The wintry weather in northwestern New Jersey has resulted in one delayed opening - Vernon schools will open two hours late.
Elsewhere, expect spotty, light rain for most of the morning and afternoon before it becomes steadier this evening, forecasters.
The coastal flood advisory for Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and southeastern Burlington counties lasts until 4 p.m. Up to a foot of inundation is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines in those spots as well as in Hudson, eastern Essex and eastern Union counties.
Minor flooding is possible on the barrier islands and along the back bays of Ocean County, in tidal areas of southeastern Burlington County and in coastal locations of Monmouth County. In Middlesex County, minor road flooding is possible in Woodbridge, Perth Amboy, Old Bridge and South Amboy, the weather service says.
As of 6:30 a.m. temperatures are in the 30s across the state with little variation from Sussex to Cape May counties. Temps will only make it into the low to mid 40s this afternoon before falling into the 30s overnight into Tuesday.
After Monday, though, dry conditions and seasonable temperatures should stick around for several days with no frigid conditions or threats of snow through at least Saturday. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are likely to be sunny with highs in the 50s. Nighttime lows will be in the 30s. Both of those marks are about normal for this time of November.
