Selena Gomez has spoken out about her personal struggles on more than one occasion and her latest confession has earned her a lot of praise on Instagram.

On Thursday, the “Ice Cream” singer shared a photo of herself in a blue one-piece swimsuit intentionally showing the scar she received following a kidney transplant operation.

In the caption of the photo, Gomez appeared to show support for a friend’s women empowerment project and swimsuit brand while sharing a special message about how she has learned to embrace her body.

“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up,” she wrote.

“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am, and what I went through...and I’m proud of that. T - Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that...all bodies are beautiful.”

In 2017, Gomez revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant following lupus complications after her friend Francia Raísa donated the organ. The performer later reflected on the surgery during a “Today” interview.

“My kidneys were just done,” Gomez told anchor Savannah Guthrie. “That was it, and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking someone to do that was really difficult for me. She volunteered and did it. And let alone someone wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match. The fact that she was a match, I mean that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.”

Although Gomez dealt with a few complications after the surgery, she appears to be embracing the second chance she was given.
