Some of the players on the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year watch list had a chance to show off in Week 8 and did so in a big way. Davison's Brendan Sullivan bounced back for five touchdowns after a tough Week 7 and Chippewa Valley's Myren Harris helped clinch an outright league title in a close victory.

However, the boys from Muskegon really stole the show as Cameron Martinez and Leroy Quinn came up big in statement victories.

Looking ahead to Week 9, it's one last chance for players to make a statement as the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year process will be narrowed to just 10 players.

If you have any stats to report of any of the athletes moving forward, please email japurcell@mlive.com with information.

Donovan Edwards, RB, West Bloomfield

5-11, 190

Junior

Trending: Stable

Top 10 potential: High

Week 9 outlook: As expected, Edwards gashed the Oxford defense for many big plays, including a 50-yard touchdown run. He even lined up on the outside as a wideout and caught a deep pass for a 43-yard gain down to the 2-yard line. He also had a punt return touchdown called back on a penalty. It is worth noting that Edwards eclipsed the 1,000-total-yard mark for the season in the win over Oxford. Up next is a nice test against Warren De La Salle, a team well accustomed to strong rushing attacks.

Myren Harris, RB, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley

6-0, 200

Senior

Trending: Stable

Top 10 potential: High

Week 9 outlook: Myren Harris was a prime example of toughness in Chippewa Valley's meaningful 21-17 win over Romeo last week. His 53-yard run in the first quarter where he stripped tackle after tackle should be something that college coaches look closely at. He finished the game with 169 yards on 18 carries, and added plenty of broken tackles throughout. So far this season, he is averaging 8.1 yards per carry with 150 carries for 1,218 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also caught a touchdown pass and averages 34 yards as the team's punter. He shouldn't have any issues running through the Utica defense this week, with probably only one half of work needed from him.

It was not the sharpest night in the passing game for Kelbert as he finished 13-for-27 with one touchdown and two interceptions. Yet, he added three rushing touchdowns and 85 rushing yards to keep the Patriots in the game. Franklin will travel to Hartland for a Week 9 KLAA crossover.
