High Court stays work on Biodiversity flyover

HYDERABAD: In a setback to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the High Court has stayed construction of a flyover by the civic body at Biodiversity Park, near Gachibowli, in Rangareddy district until further orders.

As for the case, the petitioner had applied to the GHMC for permission to construct a commercial complex in the subject land but the commissioner rejected the application without giving any reasons. Meanwhile, the district authorities issued a notice, under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 to the company for acquisition of 1,310 square yards of the subject land for road widening. The company raised an objection, saying that land acquisition was taking place only on one side of the road.

When the matter came up for hearing before justice Ramachandra Rao, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the authorities issued the award for compensation before the completion of the statutory 30-day period and without hearing their objections.

Even attempts were made for forcible acquisition of the land. Already, the flyover work had commenced and if the work was not stopped, there would be an irreparable loss to the petitioner, he contended. The judge later issued notices to officials concerned to respond on the issue.
