Business was hot in Rockwall County during summer

Sep. 17—The summer of 2021 has been beneficial to the cities in Rockwall County, with all but one reporting huge boosts in the amount of sales tax rebate revenue they collected as a result of the business at local merchants.

All of the cities reported substantial gains in the amount of revenue they have collected for the year so far, according to the most recent report issued by Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

The September sales tax rebate payment represents each city's portion of sales taxes collected at local businesses in July and reported to the Comptroller's office in August. Sales taxes are one of the two main sources of revenue, along with property taxes, which feed a city's general fund.

— The city of Rockwall reported receiving $2.5 million in sales tax rebate revenue this month, representing an increase of 18.56% from just over $2.1 million in sales tax rebate revenue received in September 2020. For the year to date, Rockwall has taken in $23.89 million, an increase of 24.58% from the $19.17 million received through September of last year.

— Fate received $155,920.45 from the Comptroller's Office, an increase of 51.83% from the $102,692,29 in sales tax rebate revenue it collected during September 2020. For the year so far, Fate has collected $1.27 million, representing a boost of 25.71% from the just over $1 million the city had taken through September one year ago.

— Heath received $183,740.04 this month, representing an 11.74% increase from the $164,434.85 it received in September 2020. For the fiscal year to date Heath has taken in $1.68 million, a 15.81% increase in sales tax rebate revenue when compared to the $1.45 million the city had collected through September of last year.

— McLendon-Chisholm collected a sales tax rebate payment of $184,363.35, representing a staggering increase of 485.24% from the $31,501.95 received in September of last year. For the fiscal year to date, the city has collected $571,755.86 in sales tax rebate revenue, an increase of 99.87% from the $266,060.64 collected through the same point one year ago.

— Mobile City received a payment of $8,228.60 this month, representing a decrease of 35.63% from the $12,784.22 received in September of last year. However, for the fiscal year to date, Mobile City has collected $94.938.50 in sales tax rebate revenue, an increase of 16.24% from the $81,672.62 collected through the same point one year ago.

— Royse City was to receive $526,597.09 in sales tax rebate revenue this month, representing an increase of 47.96% from the $355,885.36 collected in September 2020. For the year to date, Royse City has taken in $4.31 million, representing an increase of 25.54% from the $3.43 million received through the same point one year earlier.
