Shut down is unrelated to Vox Media’s recent merger with New York magazine, a company spokesperson told TheWrap

Vox Media’s Curbed is shutting down its city sites for Washington, D.C., Seattle, New Orleans and Philadelphia, a company spokesperson told TheWrap on Wednesday.

The spokesperson did not clarify what date the sites would cease publication, but an editor for Curbed NOLA tweeted on Wednesday that the sites were ceasing publishing today.

The local offshoots of the real estate and urban design blog are the first to shutter since Vox Media’s September acquisition of New York magazine in an all-stock deal for an undisclosed amount, but the spokesperson said that the decision to shut down the Curbed sites are not related to the merger.

Curbed Network — which includes the food site Eater and fashion site Racked — was purchased by Vox Media in 2013 for a reported $20 to $30 million deal. In addition to sites for D.C., Seattle, New Orleans, and Philly, Curbed also has city sites for Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco.

“Curbed is sharpening its focus to deliver content where our audiences are most engaged and on the topics they are craving — real estate, shopping, and design,” the spokesperson said. “We’ll be expanding Austin and Boston into full time sites, while sunsetting our city sites in Washington D.C., Seattle, New Orleans, and Philadelphia, later this year.”
