PHOENIX — There are smartphones, smart televisions and now “smart gyms.”
The Exercise Coach is an innovative, high-tech fitness studio that relies on computers, artificial intelligence and robotics instead of dumbbells and treadmills.
Members are given a code that is unique to them on each machine. The high-tech, robotic machines adjust their workout to their strengths and weaknesses in real time, helping the person get the most out of their workout and avoid injuries.
The workouts are 20 minutes long, twice a week and they can’t be matched in effectiveness with even seven days a week of traditional activity-based exercise.
“Our programs are private and customized,” Amanda Coe, the gym’s owner, said. “Each person goes at his or her own pace. We get the best results in the safest, least amount of time.”
Each machine has a screen that shows you what your target goal is. You’ll never work above your optimal ability or below, which would waste your time.
“The machines are low impact and move slowly in a controlled fashion to prevent injuries.” Coe said.
Each machine uses artificial intelligence to track your progress from workout to workout and adjusts the intensity and resistance based on how you well you are doing.
“Many of our clients are baby boomers, seniors, and working professionals,” Coe said. “It’s a great fit for people who aren’t exercising right now, sometimes they are too busy, injured, or they don’t like to.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never exercised a day in your life, it’s not intimidating and doesn’t feel like a gym.”
The Exercise Coach has six Valley locations and is accepting new clients.
