Armed robbery that injured 2 students near Pa. university remains under investigation

The shooting that put the Indiana University of Pennsylvania on lockdown Friday remains under investigation, but police now say the incident started as an armed robbery.

Two IUP students were injured in the incident that occurred about two blocks from campus around 8 p.m., prompting school officials to advise students to stay inside with locked doors, WTAE is reporting.

Three men in black clothing and ski masks were involved in two separate robberies at homes on the 800 block of Wayne Avenue. According to reports, items were stolen from one of the homes, where the incident turned physical, resulting in one person being shot in the neck. Another was injured, but there is no information on how that person was injured.

No arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate.

Police do not believe this was a random incident and say there is no risk to community safety, reports indicate.
