FAA advisory indicates Trump to escape DC protests for weekend at New Jersey golf course

President Trump may be escaping the protests outside the White House for a weekend at his golf club in New Jersey if a Federal Aviation Administration advisory is any indication.

The “VIP Movement Notification,” which restricts air traffic, is in place from Friday through Sunday over Morristown and Bedminster. The White House has not yet released Trump’s schedule for the weekend.

Trump has spent more time than he usually does at the White House in recent months, cutting back on travel and his weekend golf outings due to the coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. leads the world with a reported 1.7 million coronavirus cases and more than 104,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.

But his activity outside the White House has increased in the last two weeks as he pushes for states to reopen their economies.

On May 23, he played golf for the first time since he declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency. He also visited Arlington National Cemetery and Fort McHenry National Monument in Baltimore on Memorial Day. He flew to Florida twice in recent days to watch astronauts blast into orbit.

Trump’s May golf outing to Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, was his first visit to one of his properties since March 8, when he visited his golf club in West Palm Beach during a weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

His expected escape to Bedminster comes as tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in dozens of cities. The demonstrations began after the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after a white police officer put a knee on his neck for more than eight minutes.

Trump was rushed to an underground bunker at the White House on Friday night as the protests across the street escalated.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner about the president’s weekend plans.
