Georgia-Pacific plant fire caused by large explosion

CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) - The Corrigan Fire Department responded to a fire at the Georgia-Pacific plant in Corrigan Saturday evening.

According to the Corrigan Fire Department, the fire was caused by a large explosion.

The Livingston Fire Department reports that a dust explosion occurred outside the main plant in the sawdust/shavings collector system. They say nine people were hurt in the explosion. Four people were flown to Houston hospitals in critical condition, five others were taken by ambulance to a Lufkin hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Firefighters left the scene just before 9 o'clock Saturday night.

Officials say Osha has been notified about the explosion. It is not clear if they will investigate the incident.
