Michigan’s one-day positivity rate on coronavirus diagnostic tests has dropped below 5% for the first time since Oct. 21.
The average was 4.9% on results reported to the state Jan. 20, according to data released Jan. 21 by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Michigan now has a 6.1% rate as a seven-day average on coronavirus diagnostic tests, down from 7.7% a week ago today. The statewide seven-day average of new cases is now 1,901, down 24% from 2,493 a week ago today.
Below is a closer look at the county-level data, based on the metrics used by the Michigan Department of Heath and Human Services in assessing coronavirus risk levels. The scale used by MDHHS has six levels -- “low” plus Levels A-E.
First, a look at the seven-day average positivity rates by county, grouped by the state’s metric.
- Level E (over 20%): Missaukee.
- Level D (15-20%): Gogebic.
- Level C (10-15%): Eight counties, highest to lower -- Wexford, Branch, Hillsdale, Keweenaw, Oscoda, Leelanau, Benzie and Crawford.
- Level B (7-10%): 25 counties, highest to lowest -- Ontonagon, Oceana, Van Buren, St. Clair, Lenawee, Allegan, Cass, St. Joseph, Eaton, Alger, Gladwin, Clare, Monroe, Livingston, Shiawassee, Newaygo, Alpena, Saginaw, Arenac, Ingham, Ionia, Berrien, Tuscola, Mason and Macomb.
- Level A (3-7%): 37 counties -- Wayne, Kalamazoo, Ottawa, Calhoun, Houghton, Kent, Midland, Oakland, Presque Isle, Osceola, Lapeer, Grand Traverse, Muskegon, Luce, Barry, Emmet, Jackson, Genesee, Huron, Sanilac, Iosco, Clinton, Dickinson, Manistee, Roscommon, Bay, Menominee, Lake, Antrim, Montcalm, Alcona, Cheboygan, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Washtenaw, Mecosta and Delta.
- Low (under 3%): 11 counties -- Kalkaska, Gratiot, Charlevoix, Isabella, Iron, Otsego, Baraga, Marquette, Chippewa, Mackinac and Schoolcraft.
