Huawei has just announced a new mid-range mobile processor, the Kirin 710. The Kirin 710 is a 12nm 64-bit octa-core processor which includes the Mali-G51 GPU for graphics processing. The very first smartphone that is fueled by this SoC is the Huawei Nova 3 handset (and Nova 3i) which was introduced alongside this SoC, and that is also a mid-range smartphone. This is the first 12nm processor in Kirin’s lineup, in case you were wondering, as the Kirin 970 flagship SoC had been made using a 14nm manufacturing process.

The Kirin 710 is compiled out of four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores which are running at 1.7GHz. In addition to announcing this processor, Huawei also said that it will offer ‘AI photo features’ and ‘immersive gaming experience’, as it will feature an independent ISP and DSP, which was to be expected. Based on Geekbench results from the Nova 3i, which is fueled by the Kirin 710 SoC, the Kirin 710 offers 75-percent better single-core scores than the Kirin 659, and 68-percent better multi-core scores than its predecessor, and that seems to be a considerable improvement. As far as the GPU is concerned, Huawei says that it offers 1.3 better performance compared to the ARM-Mali T830 MP2 GPU which is used in the Kirin 659 SoC, though GPU Turbo will boost its performance even more. The Kirin 710 SoC supports dual VoLTE, dual SIM setups, and category 12/13 4G LTE speeds of up to 300 Mbps down / 140 Mbps up. This processor fuels both the Nova 3 and Nova 3i handsets, and Huawei is expected to include it in a number of its upcoming handsets, same can be said for Honor as well, Huawei’s subsidiary. That is more or less it when it comes to the Kirin 710, as that is all the info that Huawei released thus far, though some additional information may surface in the coming weeks.
