Who's that girl? Rose Byrne is unrecognisable in a curly retro wig and flared denim jumpsuit as she films a beach scene for her new show Physical in Santa Monica

Rose Bryne's new Apple TV+ dramedy Physical isn't due out until late 2021.

But fans were given a sneak peek of the 80s-based series on Tuesday, when the Australian actress was spotted filming scenes in Los Angeles' Santa Monica.

Rose, 41, looked remarkably different and retro chic in a form-fitting denim jumpsuit on the beachside set.

The Bridesmaids star look is in line with the set - a Southern California beach community in the 1980s.

The brunette beauty also sported a thick dark curly hair wig worn down around her shoulders and accessorised with big hoop earrings for the scenes.

Rose was seen standing in front of a vintage green station wagon with other bikini-clad women and male surfers surrounding her.

Her co-star Lou Taylor Pucci, 35, also later joined the filming.

The 10-episode series is set in 1980s San Diego, and follows Sheila Rubin, played by Rose, who is described as a 'quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife supporting her smart but controversial husband's bid for state assembly'.

Sheila also will battle her own set of personal demons relating to her self-image and become empowered through the world of aerobics into becoming a pioneering female lifestyle guru.

Physical is due to premiere later this year on Apple TV+ and also will feature Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Paul Sparks and Ashley Liao.

While many big name Australian stars have relocated Down Under amid the coronavirus pandemic, Rose has primarily remained in the U.S. with her family.

She and partner Bobby Cannavale, 50, recently made a brief return to Australia to film Nicole Kidman's Nine perfect Strangers in New South Wales' Byron Bay in 2020.

The New York-based couple share sons Rocco, five, and Rafa, three.
