Apple could potentially be including proximity sensors and facial recognition technology in future iMac units soon. The technology would allow the Apple computers to react and open itself up once it detects a potential user entering its range. These two features could help revolutionize the company’s computers.

As seen from the new 54 Apple patents published on the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, the company now has technology to make Macs reactive in regards to a nearby user. The technology could simply power up, wake itself up from sleep mode and prime itself ready when a user walks by it.

The technology could detect people through cameras and light sensors. However, Apple also has technologies that could use microwave radar, ultrasonic sensors, and others to help the device check for any potential users around. The cameras that could be used for this technology could take 3D photos and the radars could detect heartbeats.

While the patent mentions facial recognition technology, the patent doesn’t detail how exactly it would work. The patent mostly mentions that it’ll combine facial recognition and movement recognition technology to detect is the user readying up to use the computer.

As of now, Apple does have the Face ID technology for its iPhones and other handheld smart devices. Potentially, this patent could be an improvement for this technology or a simply a version for Apple’s larger electronics.

While the prospect of a new Apple device feature is great, the company has been slowly focusing less on releasing new devices. Since the start of 2019, Apple has been focused on introducing new services and improving older ones. Apple has even decommissioned the iTunes app to give way for three new apps that’ll handle its music, video, and other entertainment media products separately.

For now, we’ll have to wait for more information from Apple to talk more about their devices. Their reveals on new devices are mostly surprise releases on their site and none of it are announced with large marketing stunts and events. However, September is closing in which is a month that Apple is known to release new products in the past years.
