BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s deer season wrapped up over the weekend, but it’s not the end of hunting opportunities.
The Game and Fish Department says several national wildlife refuges in the state open to late-season upland game bird hunting the day after the deer gun season closes.
Arrowwood, Audubon, Des Lacs, J. Clark Salyer, Lake Alice, Lake Zahl, Long Lake, Lostwood, Tewaukon and Upper Souris refuges opened Monday.
Tewaukon is open to pheasant hunting only, nontoxic shot is required on all refuges, and portions of all refuges are closed to hunting. Hunters should contact refuge headquarters for details on restrictions.
The seasons for pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse, Hungarian partridge and ruffed grouse close statewide on Jan. 6.
