Ducks Fall to No. 14 Stanford, No. 13 California

04/14/18 | Women's Beach Volleyball

SEATTLE - The Oregon beach volleyball team fell to a pair of top-15 opponents in No. 14 Stanford and No. 13 California on Saturday to open the Pac-12 North Invitational at Alki Beach.

How it Happened: The Ducks (2-6), who have now faced teams ranked in the top 20 in five of their eight matches this season, were unable to get much going against the Cardinal (14-9) and Golden Bears (18-5).

Stanford jumped out ahead early in Oregon's first contest of the day, winning four matches in straight sets. Lindsey Vander Weide and August Raskie rebounded from a first-set loss on the top court to win the second, 21-16, but Stanford's top pair pulled out the third set, 15-12, to finish off the sweep.

California bounced back from a loss to Washington earlier in the day to sweep the Ducks in straight sets. Willow Johnson and Lauren Page battled hard at the No. 3 court, narrowly falling in the first set, 22-20.
