Material Shortages Hit U.K. Home Building Plans

The rate of home building that was pledged by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2019’s election is "almost impossible," according to industry experts. The Conservative Party’s manifesto included a promise to build "300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s" leading to "at least a million more homes, of all tenures" by 2024. But shortages in labor and materials are expected to derail those efforts. "When there’s a shortage of materials, you’d argue that’s going to be almost impossible," said Duncan Brock, director of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply. City A.M.

In Most of Colorado, Property Prices Are Skyrocketing by Double Digits

Home prices in Colorado are surging, with more than half of the state’s ZIP Codes recording double-digit gains in the 12 months to July, according to Montana-based research firm Headwaters Economic. Of the 20 ZIP Codes that recorded the highest home-price appreciation, five are in Colorado Springs. "Our biggest driving factor in Colorado Springs is we have a complete lack of inventory," said Patrick Muldoon, managing broker of Muldoon & Associates in Colorado Springs. "Every single month we seem to be breaking records from months before and years before." The Denver Post

Housing Market in Dallas Shows Signs of Cooling

A lift in housing stock around Dallas has started to cool competition in the Texas metro area, experts said. It still remains a seller’s market, but an increase in homes for sale is slowing the once-surging pace of price growth in and around Dallas. Home prices in the city have risen about 17% so far in 2021, and growth is predicted to slow to a moderate 4% to 5% in 2022, according to an expert at the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University. Another cooling force could be wages, which have not kept pace with surging home prices. Dallas Business Journal

A noted home in Noosa, Australia, became the most expensive house sold at auction in Queensland’s history over the weekend, selling to a local buyer for A$16.45 million (US$12.01 million). Built in 1975, it was the first time the property had ever been offered for sale.
