TAMIMENT, Pa. — The Textile Distributors Association capped its three-day convention at the Tamiment Resort and Conference Center here last Thursday night by parodying many of its members, plus such diverse personalities as Heidi Fleiss and Ross Perot.
It was all part of the TDA’s annual musical show, this year entitled, “The Cruise to Nowhere, or The Cohen Mutiny, or The Ship of Fools.”
The 90-minute production, putting to the test the performing talents of many TDA members, portrayed a TDA convention on a cruise ship.
The show was directed by Fred Shaw, Bloomsburg Mills’ vice president of sales, with songs written by Shaw; John Cavanaugh, vice president of Clinton Mills, and Carl Weigand, account executive for Wellman Inc.
Musical highlights included “The Generic Fiber Guy,” sung to the tune of “Always on My Mind,” and “We’re Moving the Company South,” sung to “Three Blind Mice.”
Another top number, “Now I’m All Ears,” (sung to “McNamara’s Band”), was a take on Perot’s protectionist views. It was belted out by Al Fenner, president of Malibu Textiles.
A sampling of the lyrics: “Now I’m all ears/My friend Al Gore/Says Mexico/Won’t buy offshore/They’ll play it straight/Won’t make a fuss/’Cause he says from past experience/They’d never lie to us.”
