CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP

— Michigan Blood's Saginaw Donor Center is set to introduce its new renovations to the public on Thursday, March 15 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Area residents are invited to the ceremony, which takes place at the Michigan Blood Saginaw Donor Center, 1771 Tittabawasee in Carrollton Township, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 15.

"It's a prime opportunity to do something like this so we can prepare for the future," said Tamar Chipp, Public Relations Supervisor for Michigan Blood. "This is a pretty big deal for the Great Lakes Bay region."

Chipp said that the renovations are finished and that the cost for the upgrades was $295,000. The renovations include refurbishing of the screening rooms and restrooms, new donor beds and new furniture.

"This renovation is going to improve the efficiency of our staff," said Chipp. "It'll be a quicker experience. We will see more donors and offer them a better experience."

There will be four screening rooms in the renovated blood donor center.

The 12,000-square foot Saginaw Donor Center, which opened its doors in 1989, is one of two blood donation facilities in the state that also has a lab in the building, along with the Grand Rapids blood center.

The Saginaw Donor Center provides blood for Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary's of Michigan, Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Midland and the Genesee County area.

The center receives roughly 25 pints of blood each day and 125 pints each week, Chipp said.
