Orlando Health closed its Orange Avenue imaging center on Friday because of a lease expiration, the health system said.

The organization didn’t elaborate on the situation, but said that it is building a new imaging facility across the street at 1800 S. Orange Ave. with an expected opening date in May.

Patients are being notified and are given priority scheduling at one of Orlando Health’s five other imaging centers or at one of the hospital-based outpatient facilities located on its downtown campus, according to officials.

“We understand this change might be inconvenient for some patients and for that, we apologize,” said Daniel Honerbrink, corporate director of Orlando Health Imaging Centers in a news release.

The health system’s new 6,800-square-foot facility on Orange Avenue will offer the latest imaging technology, including open MRI, 3D mammography, and ample patient parking, according to officials.

“This location will provide superior access and be very convenient for patients who may have multiple Orlando Health appointments downtown on the same day,” said Matt Taylor, Orlando Health vice president of asset strategy, in a news release.

Orlando Health is also building two other imaging centers in the Orlando area. One is scheduled to open in February in Windermere. The other will be in Winter Park with an opening date in spring.

The health system’s existing outpatient imaging centers are located in Altamonte Springs, Ocoee, Lake Mary and Spring Lake.
