Arlington Coronavirus Update: 11 Additional Cases, 1 New Death​

ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported one new death due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Monday in the Arlington Health District. The last new death was reported on Wednesday. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District stands at 147.

Virginia health officials reported 11 new cases Monday of COVID-19 in Arlington. That's more than double the five new cases reported on Sunday. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 3,851.

To date, there have been 493 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

The Virginia Department of Health reported 627 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the lowest daily increase since the 613 cases reported on July 9. There have been 141,138 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 3,021 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 10,613 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

VDH reported Monday that 61,538 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 3.9 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 2,040,457 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 5.9 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Monday, with 575 cases related to an outbreak, with two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings. There have been 210 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.

Globally, more than 31.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 961,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the United States, more than 6.8 million people have been infected and over 199,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
