Chili Take Out Fundraiser: 3-5:30 p.m. Nov. 21, Time and the Valleys Museum parking lot, 332 Main St., Grahamsville. The dinner includes, 16 oz. chili (mild or hot, with all the fixings) rice, cornbread and ice cream. Create a pumpkin pie motif garland as a festive Thanksgiving decoration. Supplies: one 8x12 inch piece of orange felt for pie filling, one 8x12 inch piece of tan felt for pie crust, 60-inch piece of jute cord, scissors and glue. Need supplies? We have 12 kits to hand out to people who sign up for this program. Supplies, except for scissors and glue, are included in the kit. A Changing Arctic and What That Means: 1-2 p.m. Nov. 29, Mamakating Environmental Center, 762 South Rd., Wurtsboro, $5 with a $15 cap per family. The Arctic is warming at twice the rate of the global average. Learn about many of the changes that come with that unprecedented warming. Jenny Rogers will speak on the topic of permafrost thaw, vegetation changes, and wetland effects, among other things. Rogers studies specifically how the changes might affect the carbon cycle in that region and how that may further accelerate climate change. Virtual talk about Irving Berlin: 6 p.m. Dec. 3, the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library asks you to join Kenneth Korn, noted lecturer, in an informative and delightful virtual talk about Irving Berlin. Along with a discussion of Berlin's amazing personal biography, from penniless refugee to Hollywood and Broadway icon, Kenneth Korn's talk will also demonstrate with both recorded and live performance, the masterful ways in which an Irving Berlin song, such as "What Will I Do?", despite its apparent simplicity, is in fact crafted with brilliance and elegance. Mr. Berlin spent years at his home in Sullivan County, not too far away, at Lew Beach and his music was such a staple of Borscht Belt performers. This virtual program is limited to 100 registrants. Virtual Art Class - Generating Characters the Comics Consortium Way! with Walker Mettling: 7:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 3, Garner Arts Center, Poughkeepsie. Sign-up early. Learn to create comic book characters. Using a variety of fun and weird group drawing games, we'll submerge into our sketchbooks making a flurry of characters and we'll individually flesh one or two out so you can use them later. Time tested with kids and adults. All you need is paper and a pencil (or pen or favorite drawing utensil of choice) and maybe a couple dice. Students will receive the Google Meet link after purchasing the class. Holiday 'Take & Make' Zoom Workshops: Dec.4, via Zoom, $40 per person includes wreath materials. These live Zoom workshops will enable participants to safely create a beautiful holiday wreath, tabletop tree or kissing ball. Participants can pick up the materials for this project on Dec. 2 or Dec. 3 at either Cornell Cooperative Extension in Middletown or the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Participants will need their own pair of clippers and gloves. Orange County Arts Council presents a Virtual Studio Visit with Liz Nielsen: 5-6 p.m. Dec. 10, Orange County Arts Council, Goshen. Orange County Arts Council presents a virtual studio visit with Liz Nielsen, an experimental photographer based in New York. Her photographs are made without a camera and can also be described as light paintings or photograms. She works in the analog color darkroom exposing light sensitive paper and processing it through traditional photographic chemicals. Virtual attendees will visit her Newburgh studio, learn about her process, her inspiration and her works. Registration is required to attend this virtual event. Music by John Slaver virtual program: 6 p.m. Dec. 10. John Slaver has been playing the guitar and singing all his life. His first job was as a member of a teen band at Young’s Gap Hotel in 1964.
