FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - In a release Thursday evening, Floyd County Schools announced that Superintendent Danny Adkins has resigned to take the job of superintendent of the Woodford County Schools in Central Kentucky.

Adkins was selected for the Floyd County job in 2018, replacing interim superintendent Steve Trimble, who filled the vacancy left by former superintendent Dr. Henry Webb in 2017.

Adkins was previously the Personnel Director of the Pike County School district, as well as a science teacher and an elementary school principal.

“Many times when Mr. Adkins is in schools or at events, students approach him and start conversations,” said Floyd County School’s Chief of Communication Pam Caudill. “Seeing students at ease with the superintendent is an indication of the culture he created in our district.”

The Floyd County School of Innovation is considered an accomplishment of Adkins’ during his time in the district.

“I think part of Mr. Adkins’ legacy in Floyd County is how he always exceeded expectation to make sure opportunities of all types are provided for kids, especially college and career routes,” said FCSI Principal Christina Crase.

“I was honored when I was selected as superintendent of Floyd County Schools and I am even more honored to have been a part of this incredible district,” Adkins said. “The commitment to students, the level of expectation that teachers have for themselves and the overwhelming belief in our children is something prevalent in Floyd County and something that will always remain with me. I will miss my Floyd County family and I will always be a fan of Floyd County Schools.”

Adkins was named the new superintendent at Woodford County Schools on Tuesday and will begin work on July 1.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work in such a great tradition-rich district like Woodford County,” Adkins said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the Woodford County community.”

“We are confident that Mr. Adkins has the leadership skills and the experience necessary to lead Woodford County Schools into the future. We are excited to welcome him to Woodford County,” said Dani Bradley, Woodford County School board chairwoman. “We would like to thank all of the community members and staff who provided feedback throughout the search process.”
