COVID-19 numbers:
- Texas: More than 723,900 cases have been reported in the state, and more than 15,200 people in Texas have died, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Central Texas counties:
- Travis County: Over 29,200 cases have been reported and at least 426 people have died. At least 28,134 people have recovered from the virus.
- Hays County: More than 5,800 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 54 people have died. At least 4,262 people have recovered from the virus.
- Williamson County: More than 8,500 cases have been reported in the county and at least 142 people have died. More than 8,200 people have recovered from the virus.

Updates:
6 p.m. – As of Sept. 27, Austin city officials have confirmed that the number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the Austin-Travis County area is now 29,252.
The county has now reported 426 deaths along with 28,134 recoveries.

10 p.m. – In a little more than a week, some Austin ISD students will start returning to the classroom. But some teachers and staff say it's not safe yet.
They gathered at the Austin ISD headquarters on Saturday ask district leaders to push back re-opening.
“We care too much about the safety of our educators,” said Austin ISD teacher and Education Austin member Alex Murphy. “We care too much about the safety and the health, mental and physical, of our students in this haphazard fashion that the district seems determined to do, to placate I don't even know who.”
Austin's school district followed guidelines from Austin Public Health to determine its reopening plans.
Schools are set to reopen at 25% building capacity on Oct. 5, then at 50% capacity two weeks later.
7:30 p.m. – Austin Public Health (APH) is reminding Austinites to get a flu vaccine this year, especially as the flu season overlaps with the COVID-19 pandemic. APH urges residents to get a flu shot before the end of October.

6 p.m. – Travis County reported two more deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday along with 57 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 29,130 cases and 422 deaths since the start of the pandemic. At least 28,066 people have recovered from the virus.
Travis County currently has 79 people hospitalized from COVID-19, with 24 in the ICU and 17 on ventilators.
