MILLBURN, NJ — The national Papyrus chain of stationery stores recently announced that it would close all of its stores, according to a trade publication. The chain has eight stores in New Jersey. On Thursday, two store managers in North Jersey said they had heard about the closing, and that as of this week, their items are discounted at between 20 and 40 percent off.

Reached on Thursday, Rachel, a manager at the Papyrus store in the Short Hills Mall in Millburn, said she has been told the store will close but hasn't been told when. She said the store is selling its merchandise at 20 to 40 percent off with all sales final.

An employee at the store in Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City said she also was not given a closing date, but "We have arranged for a four- to six-week sublease." She declined to elaborate or give her name. She confirmed that her store is offering the same discounts.
