A 54-year-old Wichita Falls man was indicted this week in connection with an April shooting that injured a woman in her home in Lubbock.

Bryan Hillis is charged with counts of aggravated assault by causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by threat. Both offenses are second-degree felonies that carry a punishment of two to 20 years in prison.

His charge stems from an April 10 shooting at a residence in the 5700 block of 76th Street.

Responding police officers encountered Hillis, his girlfriend and two other people -- a man and a woman -- at the home, according to a Lubbock police report.

Officers handcuffed Hillis at gunpoint and saw that his hands were covered in blood and he suffered a cut on his head.

One of the men in the home was pressing a towel on the woman's left thigh, where she suffered a gunshot wound.

Officers took over first aid and applied a tourniquet on the woman's leg to stop the bleeding. The woman told police Hillis shot her in the leg, the report states.

Hillis' girlfriend told police she and Hillis were visiting Lubbock from Wichita Falls and went out to a bar with her friends, including the woman who was shot. At the bar she and Hillis started arguing. They returned to her friend's home where they continued arguing in one of the bedrooms.

She said the argument turned violent, with Hillis punching the back of her head multiple times before threatening to kill her, her daughter and her grandchildren, the report states.

She said Hillis went to his vehicle to get his gun and she went to her friend's bedroom in the rear of the house. Meanwhile, she said her friend called another friend over to prevent the situation from escalating.

All three were in the bedroom when Hillis arrived and reportedly threatened to shoot and kill everyone before killing himself.

Hillis' girlfriend told police he fired his weapon and her friend was shot in the leg, the report states.

The male friend grabbed Hilli's gun, which fired during the struggle. The man knocked Hillis to the ground and took control of the weapon, which he used to strike Hillis three times in the head.

Police officers collected Hillis' gun, one of the fired bullets and two shell casings from the home, the report states.

Hillis was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains. His bail is set at $50,000.
