Dolly Parton Teams Up With CBS for ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ Special

Dolly Parton is decking the halls at CBS this season. People reports that the country singer will star in her very own Christmas special at the network, aptly titled A Holly Dolly Christmas. The country queen will lead a festive, hour-long event starting at 8:30/7:30c on CBS Sunday, Dec. 6. The special will also air at 8 p.m. PT on CBS and CBS All Access.

According to the network, Parton will perform “from an intimate, candlelit set,” bringing both “faith-filled hymns and light-hearted holiday classics” to audiences at home. We’ll also be hearing some “personal Christmas stories” and “faith-based recollections of the season” from the singer.

“When Dolly Parton calls and tells you she wants to do a Christmas show, you don’t hesitate,” said Jack Sussman, executive vice president of specials, music and live Events/alternative and reality for CBS. “A special with the multi-Grammy Award-winning, prolific songwriting, epic live performer of all time? She had us at hello.” Parton added, “I am so proud to be a part of the CBS family this holiday season with my new Christmas special.”

If you can’t wait a couple weeks for A Holly Dolly Christmas, the singer has another special cooked up at Netflix. Her holiday musical Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square hits the streaming platform much sooner on Nov. 22.

Here’s what else you may have missed today:

Peacemaker is building up its cast. The John Cena Suicide Squad spinoff has cast Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks, Deadline reports. Brooks will appear as Leota Adebayo alongside Cena, who plays the titular character, and Steve Agee, who is reprising his role as John Economos. Peacemaker, which explores the origins of the superhero, was first announced this summer. “I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie,” Cena said in a statement at the time. “I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”

Lego Masters is building up for a second season. Variety reports that the Will Arnett hosted series is getting a Season 2 at Fox. The competition will be shooting next spring and will air later this year. The show follows teams who face off to build the most impressive Lego creation with an aim to win the trophy and a cash prize. “I’m looking forward to getting back to the fun with this next block of shows,” said Arnett, who also executive produces the show. “To say that these Lego puns write themselves takes away from the work I’ve done over the last two and a half minutes.”

Millie Bobby Brown and Netflix are going strong! The Enola Holmes and Stranger Things star is teaming up with the streaming platform for a new movie project titled Damsel, Entertainment Weekly reports. The young actress will also executive produce the fantasy flick, which will see her as Princess Elodie, a royal who, according to the official synopsis, “thinks she is marrying Prince Henry, only to find out that she is being sacrificed to a dragon.” Damsel comes from screenwriter Dan Mazeau and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
