Earlier this year, the 48-year-old said she hit perimenopause in her 30s, per E! News, but her symptoms “reached a fever pitch” last September due to shifting hormones. Perimenopause marks the transition into menopause, which is usually noted by shifting hormones, skipped periods, and a wide-range of physical and mood-related changes, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Luckily, Union has found a few self-care rituals that help her manage symptoms.

“I love aromatherapy neck wraps to help with cramps,” Union told Prevention. “The smell and warmth of the wrap is so soothing and while it isn’t the traditional product for cramp relief it really helps me.”

So what does Union do to manage the cramps, fatigue, bloat, and other side effects of perimenopause? Aside from aromatherapy neck wraps, she says it’s as simple as drinking water—and finding something pretty to hydrate with.

“Hydration is also super key, I always try to drink at least a gallon of water a day so I always have my water bottle on hand,” Union adds. Her favorite? Bkr’s water bottles. “There is a great glass, dishwasher safe water bottle from bkr, a small business that sells their products on Amazon, and is featured in the Small Business Gift Guide, that I highly recommend.”

Finally, though not specifically for perimenopause symptoms but luxe nonetheless, Union says she loves a good soak using Live by Being’s bath salts.

“I love using the bath salts from LIVE BY BEING for a good relaxing soak,” she says. “They have several different scents and they all give you that spa feeling from the comfort of your own home. Plus, I love that I am supporting a small Black and woman owned business that I can easily order from Amazon.”

If it’s good enough for Union, it’s good enough for us! These make for great gifts for teen girls, your mom, and definitely fun stocking stuffers! Just be sure to pick up an aromatherapy neck wrap and water bottle for yourself, too, this holiday season.
