James Martin Jr.

James Martin Jr. was born October 26, 1926 in Humnoke, Arkansas. He was the only child of James Martin Sr. and Emma Bolden. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized by Rev. B. Taylor (father-in-law) at Mt. Carmel CME Church in Allport Arkansas. James met and married Deborah Taylor on October 9, 1948. And unto this union seven children were born. He remained a faithful and loving husband for 71 years. Most of all they were best friends. James and Deborah lived in Pine Bluff, Ark. before relocating to North Little Rock in 1958. For over 50 years James worked as a journeyman laborer for W.E. Clark and Sons. After retirement he worked for the North Little Rock School District where he retired again in 1999. Later James joined Fairview Christian Church the leadership of his father-in-law. Rev. A.B. Taylor. Today James remained a faithful member at Fairview under the leadership of Rev. Michael J. Barker. He was preceded in death by Deborah Martin (wife), daughter, Carolyn Martin, and grandsons: James (J.J.) Martin and Matthew Mitchell. He is survived by his six children: Nadine (Robert) Johnson, Doris Williams, Duncan (Valerie) Martin of North Little Rock, Ark.; James Martin in of Jacksonville, Ark.; Beverly (Archie) Mitchell and Carvin (Kim) Martin of Sherwood, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Corrected Funeral Information: The Family Hour will be from 7-8 p.m. at Southside Church of Christ, 9300 Geyer Springs, Little Rock. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 800 Page Mill Road, North Little Rock, Ark. 72117. Burial will follow at Arkansas Memorial Gardens, North Little Rock, Ark. 72117.
