Holmes County Auditor Jackie McKee is encouraging residents to purchase dog tags by mail.

Dogs are required by law to wear their current license. Ohio law maintains that all dogs more than three months of age be licensed each year no later than Jan. 31.The annual dog registration will begin Dec. 1 and run through the end of January 2021.

The license tag has an assigned identification number that identifies the owner should the dog become lost or separated.

Applications by mail should be returned to the auditor's office in the provided stamped envelope with the proper fee. The office will mail the appropriate number of tags back.

Licenses may also be purchased at the auditor’s office, 75 E. Clinton St., Millersburg, or at the Holmes County Dog Warden Department, 5387 County Road 349, Millersburg. Both locations can accept debit/credit card payments. Licenses may also be purchased online.

Those who have already licensed their dog will receive a new licence form in the mail by Dec. 1 with a stamped return envelope.

Cost: $15 per dog, before Jan. 31, 2021; $30 per dog, after Jan. 31, 2021. For information: holmescountydoglicense.com.
