HOT SPRINGS — “We are enormously excited. This is basically history in the making the first dispensary to open in Arkansas to sell medical marijuana. It’s just a phenomenal time.”

It’s been years in the making, but next Monday — that first medical marijuana dispensary will open in Arkansas.

The owners of Green Springs Medical in Hot Springs are expecting hundreds of buyers.

So they’re setting limits how much you can buy.

They’re charging $15 a gram. So if you do the math, that’s $200 for a half ounce.

Only registered cardholders will be allowed inside the store.

And even though medical marijuana is legal, you can only pay in cash. The substance is still illegal under federal law.

But this week — several lawmakers proposed the Safe Banking Act to change that.

Supporters say it could make the marijuana businesses safe.
