Emma Esther Bontrager, 96, of South Hutchinson, went to her heavenly home on October 15, 2020 in South Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born April 16, 1924 in Reno County, Kansas, the daughter of Jeremiah W. and Mattie (Troyer) Troyer.

She married Roy D. Bontrager on October 8, 1948 in Yoder, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1998.

Emma and Roy were longtime residents of Garden City, Kansas, where they attended Garden Valley Church. She was a farmer’s wife and a devoted homemaker. Emma and Roy fostered children for many years. She also worked at the Garden City hospital as a nurse’s aide.

She is survived by her sister, Clara (Willard) Miller of Fairview, Michigan; brother, Jerry (Judy) Troyer of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Ryan of San Jose, California, Scot (Jennifer) of Frisco, Texas, Eric (Lindsey) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Adam (Christy) of Bandhagen, Sweden, Nicole (Bill Strickland)of Parsons, and Brook (James Carranza) of Satanta; eight great-grandchildren, Elijah, Aiden, Gabriel, Addie, Avery, Emya, Ellie, and Evelyn; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Bontrager of Santa Monica, California.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Curtis Leroy Bontrager and Jerry Daniel Bontrager; six brothers, John, Harry, William, Ora, Mose and Fred Troyer; and great-grandson, Kai.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Yoder Mennonite Church Cemetery, Yoder, Kansas. Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday, October 16, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. The family will not be present.
