Who are BLACKPINK?

BLACKPINK is made up of singers Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa, and Jennie.

Jisoo, real name Kim Ji-Soo, was born and raised in South Korea.

Jennie, often referred to as the rapper of the group, spent some of her early life in New Zealand before returning to South Korea.

Rosé, given name Park Chae Young, was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia.

Meanwhile, dancer and rapper Lisa, short for her real name Lalisa Manoban, lived in Thailand until she was 15.

The group was created by the label YG Entertainment - which is also responsible for launching the careers of successful K-pop music acts including 2NE1, PSY, and iKon.

The girls perform their songs in Korean and English, and also record Japanese singles as well.

Blackpink debuted in 2016 and was an instant success with their track Whistle being their first number one song in South Korea.

In the same year, their track Boombayah topped the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

In the wake of Whistle's popularity, Blackpink's fame reached new heights after a string of successful singles.

Some of their most popular songs are How You Like That?, Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, Playing With Fire, and Kill This Love.

The group also experienced further acclaim from their crossover collaborations with a variety of English-language performers.

The girls teamed up on singles with Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Lady Gaga, and Selena Gomez.

Did Kill This Love break a YouTube record?

In April 2019, BlackPink set a new YouTube record after reaching 70 million views for a music video in less than 38 hours.

The Kill This Love video hit the milestone after one day, 13 hours and 30 minutes on the streaming channel.

The previous record-holder was held by Idol - the Nicki Minaj-assisted single from BTS - which was two days, one hour and 50 minutes.

YouTube also confirmed that the track hit 56.7 million views in its first 24 hours, which means the group beat the previous record held by Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next.

Kill This Love's record was taken back from BTS due to the smashing numbers for their single Boy With Luv, which featured Halsey.

Blackpink's How You Like That supplanted BTS' Boy With Luv, only to later have their accolade broken by the boy band's Billboard 2020 number one smash, Dynamite.
