Foley police bust motel meth lab; Mobile man charged with drug trafficking

FOLEY, Alabama -- A Mobile man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking Tuesday after police found a methamphetamine lab in a room of the Town & Country Motel on Ala. 59.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Foley police responded to a report of a meth lab at the small motel, just of the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. According to a media release, officers found a meth lab in the room 6 and Foley investigators and members of the Baldwin County Drug Task Force were called in.

"A search of the room revealed several components used during the manufacture of methamphetamine," the release stated.

It was determined that 31-year-old Jerry Butler was staying in the room but was not there. Investigators then contacted Butler's place of employment and escorted him back to the motel.

"Investigators believed that the suspect had produced methamphetamine in his room on several occasions," the release from Foley police stated. "Over 28 grams of meth oil were seized (and) numerous items of drug paraphernalia."

Butler was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette. Bail was set at $1 million.
