Best Slipcovers

We’ll let Marc Charbonnet, a top interior designer and regular customer at Joe’s, do most of the talking here: “They can do exterior ties, complicated piping—whatever you need,” he says. “I’ve used them for some of my most demanding clients with great success. With a little direction, they can do anything that anyone in New York can, and they happen to be incredibly inexpensive.” Owner Mimi Sason and her slipcover team of four cutters will work with any of the thousands of different fabrics ($6 to $60 per yard) in stock, or you can supply your own. One of those tailors will come to your house and make a pattern directly on your couch (slipcovers range from $500 to $750), chair ($250 to $500), love seat ($350 to $600), or ottoman ($150 to $250) and then return two or three weeks later for a final fitting. The result is a sleek design choice, a simple way to change your room with the seasons, or a fine way to get extra years out of that threadbare chair. As Sason points out, “it’s half the price of upholstering.”
