South Jersey has had some great coaches through the years. These men are the top winningest active coaches in the region.

The top 10 winningest active coaches in South Jersey high school football. Career records are based on games played through Sept. 28.

Paul Sacco, St. Joseph (Hamm.)

1-Paul Sacco, St. Joseph 330-65-5

A St. Joe graduate, Sacco is in his 38th season and has directed the Wildcats to 20 state championships. They’ve won the last two Non-Public Group 2 titles and three of the last four. Overall, he’s led the team to seven Non-Public Group 1 titles, 12 in Non-Public Group 2 and one shared group title in 2010. St. Joseph is 3-1 overall this season.

Joe Frappolli, Florence

2-Joe Frappolli, Florence 311-147-5

The dean of South Jersey coaches, Frappolli has been at the helm of his alma mater for 46 seasons. He led the Flashes to the 1985 South Jersey Group 1 title as well as Central Jersey Group 1 crowns in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2012. Florence is 2-2 this season.

Glenn Howard, Paulsboro

3-Glenn Howard, Paulsboro 294-67

Once a player for the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League, Howard is in his 34th season at his alma mater. He’s led the Red Raiders to 15 of their 19 South Jersey Group 1 championships, including six straight between 1992-1997. Paulsboro is 2-2 this season.

Tim Gushue, Shawnee

4-Tim Gushue, Shawnee 256-119-6

Another longtime coach who’s served only at his alma mater and was a member of its first graduating class, Gushue is in his 37th season with the Renegades. He’s directed teams to eight sectional titles, including last season’s South Jersey Group 4 crown. His teams have won back-to-back titles three times. No. 12 Shawnee is 4-0 this season.

Pete Lancetta, St. Augustine

After spending 26 seasons at Hammonton, where he directed the Blue Devils to sectional titles in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 2009, Lancetta is in his third season at St. Augustine. Prior to his arrival, he was an assistant coach at Rowan University. St. Augustine is 1-3 this season.

Sal Marchese, Jr., Delsea

Just the second coach in Delsea history, Marchese is in his 27th season after replacing legendary coach John Oberg. He’s led the Crusaders to seven South Jersey Group 3 titles, including four straight between 2012-2015, as well as back-to-back South Jersey Group 2 championships in 2008 and 2009. Delsea is 1-2 this season.

Tom Maderia, Burlington Township

7-Tom Maderia, Burlington Twp./Holy Cross 197-90

A former assistant at West Virginia University, Maderia is in his 17th season at Burlington Township. He directed Holy Cross to Non-Public Group 4 state title in 2000. Burlington Township is 2-1 this season.

Frank Fucetola, Williamstown

8-Frank Fucetola, Williamstown/St. Augustine 174-98

In his 23rd season at Williamstown, Fucetola guided the Braves to South Jersey Group 5 titles in 2012 and 2018. In his three seasons at St. Augustine, he led the Hermits to 19 wins and the Non-Public Group 1 state championship in 1995. No. 5 Williamstown is 4-0 this season.

Frank DeLano, Haddonfield

In his 18th season, DeLano has led the Bulldogs to five South Jersey Group 2 titles - including the last two - and a victory in the inaugural South/Central Group 2 bowl game last season at MetLife Stadium to complete a 13-0 season. Haddonfield also won sectional crowns in 2010, 2013 and 2014. It will also take a state-leading 21-game winning streak into Friday’s game against St. Joseph (Hamm.). Haddonfield is 4-0 this season.

Rob Hinson, Timber Creek

In his 14th season after directing Salem for one, Hinson has led the Chargers to four sectional titles and seven championship appearances since 2009. They won back-to-back South Jersey Group 4 titles in 2015 and 2016, as well as winning South Jersey Group 3 in 2011 and SJ Group 4 in 2012. Timber Creek is 3-1 this season.
