According to Zillow, the median value of a home in the US is just shy of $250,000 at $248,857.

Depending on where you buy, that kind of money can get you a sprawling 5,000-square-foot home or a cozy 200-square-foot apartment.

A PropertyShark report looked at the 100 largest US cities to find out just how much space $250,000 could get you.

The study comes at a time when buyer interest is shifting from urban markets to less densely populated areas.

The shift to remote work that accompanied social distancing is driving many urbanites to the suburbs. By late April, a Harris Poll survey of 2,050 US adults found that 39% of city residents were considering moving to less densely populated areas because of the coronavirus outbreak; most of the residents considering moving were between 18 and 34 years old.

Axios, citing Realtor.com data, reported that views per property in suburban ZIP codes were up by 13% in May, nearly double the pace of growth for urban areas.

"I can't tell you how many calls I get," Cristina Sippel, a suburban real-estate agent in New Jersey, previously told Business Insider. "Every house that's priced relatively well has multiple offers."
