ASHLAND The Ashland Lions Club recently donated around 1,300 pairs of eyeglasses to its state headquarters, all of which will benefit those with eyesight needs.

At the club’s Tuesday meeting at the Ashland Elks Lodge, Kentucky Lions District Governor Mary Wethington paid a visit and collected the glasses.

Lions Club member Kevin Compton said the group has eyeglass reciprocals set up throughout the local community so citizens can donate anytime they wish. He noted eyesight is the primary mission of the Lions Club International, adding the group also works with the local family resource center to help those in need of eye care.

“If someone needs eyeglasses or eye exams and can’t otherwise afford it there is an application process that the family recourse center handles for us and we take money that we raise as a club and use those monies to help provide eyeglasses and eye exams in the Ashland area,” he said.

The Ashland Lions Club was chartered on Feb. 12, 1924 and is one of the Tri-State’s oldest service clubs. For more information on the Ashland Lions Club, visit www.facebook.com/ashlandlionsclub.
