Auburn regained some ground in the polls with its win over Ole Miss, but it remains just outside the top 25 of the Coaches Poll. However, it continued to fall in the AP Poll despite the win.

After beating Ole Miss 35-28, Auburn came in at the top of the list of “Others receiving votes" in the Amway Coaches Poll. It led the way with 118 votes, ahead of Liberty who had 112 and Memphis who had 88. It was behind No. 25 Army, who had 130 votes.

However, in the AP Poll, it fell from fifth among the “Others receiving votes” to sixth. With 41 votes, it was behind Memphis, Liberty, Tulsa, Louisiana-Lafayette and Army.

Auburn’s loss to South Carolina the previous week was bad enough for it to drop from 15th out of the AP Poll’s Top 25, and then some. With 48 votes, it was the fifth school among those who received votes. It fared a little better in the Coaches Poll, dropping from 14th to the first school who also received votes. It had just 93 votes that week.

It was the first time since 2018 that Auburn had been unranked.

The Tigers started the 2020 season at No. 11 in the AP Poll before moving up to No. 7 after week three of the national season and week one of the SEC season. They had just beat Kentucky. After that, it was a steady decline. They dropped six after losing to Georgia, one after narrowly beating Arkansas and then more than 10 after losing to South Carolina.

With Auburn out of the rankings, there are four SEC schools in the Coaches Poll. They include No. 2 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Florida . Alabama kept its spot after beating Tennessee 48-17. Georgia had a bye and dropped one while Texas A&M rose one during its break. Florida has not played its last two games because of COVID-19 concerns.

The top five now include Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia.
