CHICAGO — Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was in Chicago Friday as part of his infrastructure tour.

Buttigieg will tour local projects that will benefit from President Biden’s $1.2 trillion American jobs plan.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot and several members of Illinois’ Congressional Delegation joined him to talk with CTA workers and discuss improvements at the 95th and Dan Ryan Red Line station.

Chicago is already ahead of other cities when it comes to at least committing to greener transportation infrastructure. The city has promised to make all CTA buses electric by 2040.

The federal government recently gave Chicago a $7 million grant to help meet the deadline and to purchase battery-operated buses.

Following the Red Line tour, Buttigieg viewed the CSX railyard with Gov. Pritzker and others in Bedford Park.
